I began making special appearances in 1996 through a statewide appearance service run by Wm. Gregory Polster. In the years following, I also made appearances through other statewide services, including Attorneys to Go, Lawyers on Call, Hoffman & Pomerantz, and Steve Levy (later renamed Court Appearance Professionals). Over the years, some statewide appearance services sought to restrict appearances, so that they could be done only through their particular service. With requirements that no longer allowed me to cover the Santa Clara appearances for all the services, I began to appear for some of those counsel directly. Also, many local counsel began retaining me directly to cover their appearances. Now, the great majority of the cases on which I appear are arranged directly with counsel of record. Although there are changes to the firms and counsel for whom I appear, some of the counsel and firms have been using me to cover their appearances for the past 20 years.

Stephen is a graduate of Georgetown Preparatory School, in Maryland, The Catholic University of America, in Washington, D.C., and the University of Dayton School of Law in Ohio. He maintains licenses to practice law in New York, New Jersey, and California and was a Certified Public Accountant for over 25 years.
He began his professional career at the Public Accounting firm of Neuman & Rosenblatt, where he was responsible for the write up of books and records for various businesses and preparation of their tax returns. As Milton Rosenblatt, his supervisor, would say, Stephen did the work “from soup to nuts". This meant that Stephen would perform all the tasks from beginning to end. He also assisted in the review of the financial statements of audit clients in New York and Massachusetts.
After moving to California, Stephen continued his career path, as an attorney/CPA providing tax research, planning, and tax return preparation for an attorney with high net worth individuals from around the United States. However, after having children, his career path changed, which allowed him to spend more time with his young children.
The bulk of Stephen’s career has been providing court appearance coverage for attorneys with cases pending in Santa Clara County. For decades he covered the majority of cases pending in Municipal Court for collection firms from other parts of the state, from initial CMC through trial. With the consolidation of the courts and changes or the rules related to collection cases, his practice has changed to appearing for a wide variety of attorneys, both for plaintiff and defendant counsel. Mostly for CMCs and other routing court hearings, but also Bench trials for property damage subrogation cases, for some law firms.
Stephen is well known in Santa Clara County for efficiently assisting with routine court hearings,
Stephen is also an avid sailor, with first aid training , a Certificate of Competence from the Royal Yachting association, and a Safety-at-Sea certification from World Sailing. He has also taught sailing at Vasona park in Los Gatos and on San Francisco Bay.
